According to a study conducted by researchers from the Medical College of Georgia, the subcutaneous fat that appears under the skin in places such as the hips, buttocks, and back of the arms is a protective agent against brain inflammation in females. They pointed out that brain inflammation in females is associated with problems like dementia and stroke until menopause.
In the study, the researchers found that subcutaneous fat loss increased brain inflammation in females without moving the dial on levels of their estrogen and other sex hormones. They also found that females who did not have much subcutaneous fat or had it removed but consumed a high-fat diet had brain inflammation levels similar to those of males.
